Farmers Fresh in abattoir planning row

By FWi staff

FARMERS FRESHs abattoir is set to face a High Court appeal over the extension to its plant at Kenilworth near Coventry.

The latest court action is the latest in a series of disputes over the extension – a lairage facility – which was allegedly constructed without permission and in green belt land.

In a public hearing in March this year, the lamb export company overturned the district councils enforcement order requiring it to bulldoze the extension.

But, local news agency Kenilworth on-line, reports that at a council executive meeting this week, members voted for a High Court contest.

This could reverse the earlier decision by the planning inspector to sanction the lairage.

Mike Gooding, marketing manager of Farmers Fresh , says the report is not clear if the appeal is against Farmers Fresh or rather its landlord, or the planning inspector.

As yet he has not been able to contact the planning consultants dealing with the issue.
