Farmers gear up for 10th Back British Farming Day

Work is well under way in preparation for one of the biggest days in the farming calendar, with Back British Farming Day returning this week (Wednesday 10 September).

The annual event, now in its 10th year, was launched by the NFU to celebrate the British food and farming sector.

Since its inception in 2015, it has been used to spearhead campaigns including the NFU’s Fruit and Veg Pledge encouraging retailers to buy more British produce when in season, to raise awareness of rural crime, and launch industry-wide petitions on food standards.

This year, the NFU has created a toolkit with downloadable signs, and is encouraging farmers and growers to take part.

NFU president Tom Bradshaw said: “The toolkit provides an easy way to get involved on the day, with social tips and farming facts.

“Let’s make this 10th anniversary of #BackBritishFarmingDay our biggest yet.”

The NFU will host a reception at its London offices on Wednesday to mark the event, while MPs and peers are being encouraged to wear the wheatsheaf pin badge in Parliament.

As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, the NFU is calling for its members to nominate their community farming heroes, to shine a spotlight on the work done by farmers and growers across the country to engage with the public and promote the sector.
