Farmers take supermarket campaign to Westminster
FARMERS besieged Westminster yesterday when they lobbied MPs for action against the monopoly power of the supermarkets.
The action group, Farmers in Crisis, claimed supermarkets were maintaining profits by selling too much imported meat.
The protestors also said supermarkets were also not passing the current low prices paid to livestock producers on to customers.
Supermarkets have denied the charge. A Sainsburys spokesman said it had a `buy British policy and shared the concern about the plight of British farmers.
