Farming Online up for sale

FARMING Online, Britains oldest farm internet portal, is up for sale after its parent company said it wanted to concentrate on software development.

Owners FOL Networks said the company had decided to develop internet technology for the international agribusiness sector.

Director Jonathan Jackson said he was open to bids for Farming Online and that offers from Farming Online farmer members would be taken very seriously.

It could easily become a farmer-controlled information and business service, he said in a news story posted on the site on Tuesday (7 August).

Mr Jackson said the trading position at Farming Online was healthy.

The portal will move into profit this autumn if current rates subscription sales and advertising are maintained, he insisted.

Founded in 1995, Farming Online claims to have 30,000 users.
