Farmland sell-off is ‘greedy’

By FWi staff

LOCAL authority plans to sell 370,000 acres of farmland have been condemned as greedy and short-sighted by farmers.

The Daily Express compares the sale to a rural version of the council-house sales of the 1980s.

Producers say the 2500 smallholdings offer the only affordable way in which young farmers can get experience working their own land.

George Dunn, chief executive of the Tenant Farmers Association, said the sell-off was weighted against farmers.
