Farmworker, 57, killed in tractor accident

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation following the death of a farmworker in Cumbria.

Cumbria police confirmed a 57-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a tractor at Wragmire Bank Farm, Cumwhinton, at about 9am on Thursday (26 January).

Police and paramedics were called to the scene but the man, named locally as Stephen Richard Topping from Macadam Way, Penrith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old tractor driver was not injured.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said: “Cumbria police are currently investigating the incident. The Health and Safety Executive have also been informed.”

A HSE spokesman said: “We were informed by the police at 10:15am on Thursday.

“We will be leading the investigation into this incident but as it at an early stage, we cannot comment further.”
