Fill the import gap
THANKS to lower plantings in northern Europe imports have dropped as growers there realise the true costs of production and confidence slides as significant friction develops between growers and processors/packers, said the BPCs Damian Baker.
"The time is ripe for import substitution as Continental ex-farm/ factory prices start to rise. Growers here need to do more to match variety to soil to market and to match equipment levels to farm size and soil type," he urged. *
