ROBERT BOWER, who farms on light sand near Worksop in Nottinghamshire, has finished harvest. He has combined winter and spring barley.
He finished on Monday with some late-drilled Optic, sown after carrots in May. “It yielded about 1.5t/acre (3.7/ha), which is quite good considering when they were drilled.”
The earlier drilled Optic yielded 5t/ha (2t/acre), which is up to the average for the farm. He hopes it will fulfil the malting contract with Viking Cereals.
