Fires raise safety issues
NORTH Yorks fire chiefs issued a stern safety warning to farmers this week after 700 pigs and piglets burned to death at a farm near Boroughbridge.
The blaze, at Whitwell Grange, Lower Dunsforth, came only weeks after 700 piglets perished in another North Yorks farm fire.
In the latest incident, firefighters were able to save about half of the farms 1500 pigs and piglets.
Assistant divisional officer Simon Gibson said that a preliminary investigation indicated that an electrical fault had caused the fire and urged farmers to seek safety advice from their local fire service to prevent similar incidents happening in the future. *
