Fodder rape variety is protein packed

IDEAL for autumn and winter forage for grazing or green manuring, Herzog is a fodder rape variety available from Oliver Seeds.

UK and German trials have shown the variety has a high protein content, good leaf/stem ratio for greater palatability, high digestibility and hardiness, says the company.

In UK trials, the variety was said to outperform close rivals dry matter yield by 10%. Herzog also had a 14% better digestible yield and its leafiness produced high palatability giving 13% better used yield, adds Oliver Seeds.

German trials showed an average of 117% DM yield compared with close rivals, which is said to be equivalent to 4.5t/ha (1.8t/acre) or 14% more autumn fresh yield. The variety also has good resistance to bolting and mildew, adds the company.

The seed is available in any quantity required and prices start at about £2.50/kg (0800-0561122, fax 01522-507319).
