Forage Aid unveils logo and slogan

A new logo and slogan has been unveiled for the Forage Aid initiative, which delivers livestock feed to farmers in times of crisis.

The logo shows a four-wheel drive telescopic handler lifting a round bale. It is accompanied with the words “Farmers Helping Farmers”.

It comes as Forage Aid organisers prepare to submit an application to the Charity Commission to become a fully fledged charity.

The Forage Aid initiative was founded in 2013 to deliver emergency supplies of animal feed to sheep farmers hit by snowstorms in Wales and north-west England.

The idea was resurrected last year to deliver emergency feed supplies to livestock producers at the height of the Somerset floods.

Forage Aid founder and Lincolnshire grower Andrew Ward said the initiative was no longer just about providing free feed for livestock on an ad-hoc basis in times of need.

“We want to be ready to help in any emergency,” he said.

“We have proved what a handful of farmers spread across the country can pull together in a time of crisis – now we need to step up another gear.”

A fundraising drive next month aims to raise thousands of pounds for Forage Aid.

It will take the form of a tractor and trailer run from Bridgwater, Somerset, through Avon, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire to Shropshire.

The tractor run will end in Telford on 11 February, the opening day of the town’s Energy Now Expo event. Young farmers will do most of the driving on the 170-mile trip.

Cheques and pledges will be picked up en-route, with stops planned at 12 renewable energy companies along the way.
