Former Dairy Farmers of Britain factory plans revealed

Milk Link has unveiled its plans for the former Dairy Farmers of Britain creamery at Llandyrnog in North Wales.

The co-operative bought the factory from DFoB’s receivers after the business failed in June this year.

Milk Link says it has undertaken a strategic review of activities at Llandyrnog, with the aim of returning the plant to profitability and giving it a long-term future.

Chief executive Neil Kennedy said: “Our proposed changes to the management and operations at Llandyrnog will deliver greater efficiencies, business profitability and ultimately allow us to maximise the returns we can make to our members.”

Milk Link plans to halt pre-packing at Llandyrnog and absorb this activity into its dedicated packing facility at Oswestry in Shropshire.

The Llandyrnog creamery will concentrate solely on cheese production, continuing at current volumes.

The changes in operations will see the factory shed 93 jobs.

Mr Kennedy added: “We regret the potential impact this announcement may have on those who find themselves in a potential redundancy situation. We will be consulting with those affected and their representatives to help mitigate the effect of this strategic review.”

Around 300 dairy farmers supply the Llandyrnog creamery.
