French farmers sue over BSE

FRENCH farmers are going to the courts to discover why measures to eradicate BSE in their herds have failed.

Unions in the Ain department in eastern France have launched law suits against cattle-feed producers they suspect of continuing to infect their livestock, reportsThe Daily Telegraph.

Defendants, who are not named, are accused of “deception, falsification and the transmission of an animal epidemic”.

The EU reported in February that 4.2% of French animal feed still contained traces of bonemeal, 10 years after suspect animal feeds were banned.
