French talks fail

FRENCH producers, who took to the streets last week, remain determined to draw public attention to falling milk prices.

The farmers set up road blocks to stop deliveries to hypermarkets in parts of the country. Delivery trucks were turned back by the farmers, who accused big distribution firms of orchestrating the slide in milk prices, reports Agra Europe.

Talks, hosted by French farm minister, Phillipe Vasseur, between the farmers, distributors and process-ors have since failed to resolve the dispute. Speaking after the meeting, Mr Vasseur said processors had blocked a deal to freeze prices.

French processors want to cut the milk price by 2% to make up for an 8% drop in prices further down the delivery chain. &#42
