Fungicides for 99

FUNGICIDE makers are gearing up to boost output of their latest products. But extra supplies will not be available until next season.

Zeneca is to spend £35m to double production of azoxystrobin, the active ingredient of Amistar.

Meanwhile, a new £46m plant in Spain came on stream at the end of Feb to boost production of BASFs kresoxim-methyl, the new active ingredient in Landmark and Mantra. That will supplement supplies from Brazil, which accounted for 99% of the companys supplies this year.

Dow Agrosciences says it expects to run its £19m Strasbourg factory for making quinoxyfen (in Fortress and Apres) at over twice current capacity for 1999.
