FWset to take on a new challenge

farmers weekly is taking on more arable land.

Mike Stones introduces its latest investment, while farms manager John Lambkin explains the details

REPRESENTING its biggest farming expansion for more than 20 years, farmers weekly is developing its arable enterprise at Easton Lodge.

To complement the 242ha (598-acre) arable unit near Stamford, Lincs, we are taking on, subject to contract, a further 180ha (445 acres) at nearby Sacrewell Lodge, Thornhaugh, under a farm business tenancy agreement. The farm comprises predominantly grade two and three soils and traditionally grows cereals, potatoes, pulses and sugar beet. There is also an extensive reservoir for irrigation.

"Im delighted we have found the right opportunity to grow our arable enterprise. Farms manager John Lambkin and his team have done a brilliant job over the years and their hard work has helped farmers weekly enjoy a unique and valuable relationship with its readership," said Editor, Stephen Howe.

Mud on boots

"Readers value and respect the fact that FW has mud on its boots and practises what it preaches. In addition to our weekly On Our Farms Section, we also use the farms for business and technical stories and for machinery evaluation and tests."

The expanded arable unit will run alongside the 353-sow breeder/finisher pig unit at Easton Lodge. We also have a link with Vimer Farm in Normandy which is under the tenancy of Tim Green.
