Genus upturn
FARMER-OWNED firm Genus has announced a small rise in fortunes in the half-year to Sept 30, 1998. The cattle breeding and consultancy company saw operating profits rise 1.5% to £1.36m on a 7% higher turnover of £25.42m.
"As UK farmers struggle to meet 1990s operating costs with 1970s milk prices, some adverse impact on Genus was inevitable," said chief executive Richard Wood. *
