Geoffs a dab hand at pulling…
FWs deputy machinery editor Geoff Ashcroft beat 12 other competitors to victory at the European Tractor Pulling Championships held in Germany.
The sport requires tuned up tractors to pull a 100t sledge over a 100m track – the one with the furthest distance being the winner. Driving the Clarke Pulling Teams Red Alert, Geoff won the 4.4t super stock class confirming the teams position as the best diesel outfit in Europe. His winning distance was 89.41m, 6.27m ahead of Finlands Pekka Herlevi who took second and third places on the podium with his two Valmet tractors. Red Alert is based on a Case Magnum and uses four turbochargers on its 7-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine to produce about 2500hp at 5500rpm.
