Gerrard cows lead Sim fixture

A PRODUCTION sale of females from Robert Carters Gerrard herd dominated the female trade at the Simmental Cattle Societys fixture and achieved the days top price of 2300gns at Carlisle.

Leading bid came for the in-calf heifer Gerrard Sally 10th, a daughter of Sacombe Wishfull Thinking and out of a Dirnanean Nugget cow. Sally 10th, which had taken a string of local show championships this summer, stood overall champion on the day and was claimed by P &#42 Hill, Loughborough, Leics. She was in-calf to top sire Brinkton Brilliant.

Gerrard Sally 12th, a smart heifer by Brilliant, made 1000gns to T O Lowery, Isle of Man while Gerrard Alice, a heifer served in July to Wishfull Thinking, made 1000gns to S and D Peile, Wigton, Cumbria.

The Gretna House Supersonic cow Astcote Diana from S L Evans, Northants, was offered with twin heifer calves at foot by Hockenhull Simon. She stood reserve female champion and made 1950gns to E B Webster, Skipton, North Yorks.

Leading the bulls was Staffs breeder Roger Birchs Pasturefields Hugo, a Well House Dictator son out of the top winning Pasture-fields Princess. He made 2000gns to F Bradley, Aberdeenshire.
