Gimmer makes 10,500gns high at flock sale
THE close breeding that links the Cairness and Stockton Suffolk flocks produced the highest-priced sheep at last weekends three-flock sale at Perth.
A gimmer from Jimmy Douglass Cairness consignment made 10,500gns to John Sinnett, who snapped up this Stockton Stardust daughter out of a Pankymoor Prelude ewe which is full sister to Sire of the Year, Stockton Simply the Best. She was served by the 54,000gns Stockton Storm.
The first gimmer in the ring from Cairness made 6000gns to John Sherratt buying on behalf of T A Irwin and Son, Umberleigh, Devon.
This was another Stardust daughter in-lamb to Storm and is closely bred to the 26,000gns Cairness Court which has left so many good females at Stockton.
Tom Baileys Glenho flock in Eire invested 3000gns in a two-crop ewe from Cairness by Cairness Explosion and in-lamb to Storm, and another 3000gns call came from J D Walker, Nairn for a Cairness gimmer by Stockton Slocum, also served by Storm.
And trade was strong for an entry of ewe lambs from Stockton. They twice reached 3000gns.
Averages: Cairness – 42 gimmers £1083 and 19 ewe lambs £476. Stockton – 10 ewe lambs £1197 and 16 ewes and gimmers £588. Bridgestone – 20 gimmers £457 and 24 ewe lambs £265. (United Auctions) *
