GM neighbours could damage your wealth, warns RICS

THE Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has expressed concerns about possible new guidelines on the handling of genetically modified crops.

The institute fears that a code of practice proposed by the Supply Chain Initiative on Modified Agricultural Crops (SCIMAC) may be flawed.

RICS has told the Department of the Environment that cross-pollination may occur over greater distances than suggested by SCIMAC.

It claims the SCIMAC code fails to address the potential for financial loss suffered by neighbouring organic or non-GM farmers when GM crops are grown nearby.
