DEMONSTRATING the safety of genetically modified crops to consumers is absolutely essential, says Peter McCann, president of Ag-West Biotech in Saskatchewan, Canada. With government backing he set up an interpretation centre in July and already has two-hour group tours triple booked to the end of the year. Workbooks, practical demonstrations, a detailed web site and simple messages have won public favour. Total investment is CAN $450 over three years. "Europe and the UK need the same," he says.n
