GM tobacco makes blood factors

SCIENTISTS at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Washington have successfully engineered tobacco plants so that their leaves and stems produce essential human blood factors, namely Factor XIII and Factor VIII.

They are hoping that many other useful proteins and enzymes can be produced in a similar way to the method they have pioneered.
