Going all arable

Going all arable

MORE than 200 cattle came under the hammer during a six-hour dispersal for the Osborne family at Stud Farm, Curry Mallet, Somerset.

It follows their decision to switch to an all arable system on their Duchy farm.

First and second black-and-white calvers close to profit attracted most interest in the dairy section but some of the most spirited trading came for well-bred bulling and younger heifers.

The top call of 840gns came twice – for a freshly calved second calver and a cow due in July. Dry cows reached 700gns, in-calf heifers 560gns, bulling heifers 380gns and yearling heifers 330gns. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt) &#42
