Golden Vale plant goes part-time

THE Irish foods group Golden Vale plans to close its milk powder plant at Charleville for four months each year in an attempt to save money.

The company will make an exceptional restructuring provision of IR£19 million (£17m) this year and also plans to close its Dutch-cheese production factory in Roermond.

Golden Vale hopes the moves will save it IR£4m a year from 2000.
