Grain moisture limit up
MAXIMUM moisture content for grain sold into intervention will be raised from 14.5% to 15% because of the wet weather during harvest.
Farm minister Nick Brown explained: "We have monitored harvesting conditions closely this year and the moisture levels in the crop are unusually high."
The government has, therefore, asked the EU Commission to raise the moisture content for intervention for this years crop
The new limit has already been requested and agreed for seven other EU member states and will apply from Nov 1, when the intervention period begins. *
