THE Welsh Development Agency announced almost 2 million in grant aid at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, to benefit the Welsh agri-food sector.

Among the beneficiaries will be South Caernarfon Creameries, Capestone Organic Poultry, and KK Wholefoods, which processes Welsh meats, vegetables and cheeses.

And as the fair opened, the first consignment of lambs left a west Wales abattoir as part of a new deal with a Spanish supermarket chain.

Don Thomas, managing director of Welsh Lamb and Beef Promotions, unveiled the new contract to supply 4000 carcasses a week to 150 Murcat stores in Majorca and mainland Spain.

“This deal is a very encouraging start in our campaign to regain valuable export markets,” he said.
