Growers report big wheat yield rises
BIG yield increases in wheat are reported by two farmer users.
Scottish grower Jim Whiteford used Amistar mainly as a head spray on 90% of his wheat, applying 0.4 litres/ha of Amistar to Riband on June 30, which cost £18.80. That followed conventional chemistry. "Amistar has no kickback activity so it is important to keep the crop clean."
The crop yielded 1.25t/ha more than those treated with conventional chemistry alone. "It kept the crop cleaner. The difference was like night and day."
A two tramline wide block of Hussar wheat treated with 1 litre/ha of Amistar at GS39 outyielded conventionally treated crop by 1.5-2t/ha, says Hants grower Roger Dines.
"There was very little disease early on, so we were able to apply straight product." Reaper treated in similar fashion gave a 1t/ha response, says Mr Dimes. "Strobilurins look as though they will lift yields considerably. But at about £45/ha they are expensive. Rates, timings and mixtures need to be assessed carefully." *
