Heifers smash record by thousands at Perth

TWO Perth deals smashed the existing 11,000gns record price for Aberdeen Angus females when a heifer sold for 16,000gns and another 15,800gns during the opening days trade on Monday.
The breed now dominates the first two days of the sale. Quick off the mark, Orkney-based breeder Colin Davidson tempted bidders with Skaill Delia X16 from his successful Delia family. A rare chance to acquire a female from this bloodline, Delia X16, which stood champion, is by the high-score BLUP sire Nightingale Regent and out of the Windover Justifer-sired Delia of Skaill.
She has a Beef Value of 31 and was served in June by GDA Universe. Buyer was Bill Bruce, Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
Later in the sale a heifer from Co Derry, Northern Ireland breeder Gregory Donnelly brought in his Panama 10th of Ardkill. She stood third in her class, but the sale crowd thought better taking bidding to 15,800gns in favour of dairy farmer Wallace Magowan, Co Down.
Panama 10th is by Lochdhu Elfset Acres and out of a Castle of May Esquire cow. She was served in November by Fairfax Ayre of Bronte, a Dalrene Cruz/Netherton Frances 02 son that was being offered in the bull section by breeder James Spiers.
Minutes before the top call there had been a 7000gns bid for Kim of Fordafourie from Sandy Lees herd at Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. This ET heifer is bred on New Zealand lines and is by Atahua Westpoint. She was AId in November to Dalrene Cruz and bought in a two-way split between leading breeder Willie McLaren and Mr and Mrs Robin Orr, Dunfermline.
John and Marion Tilson of Berwickshire donated a heifer in memory of their son, Ian, to be auctioned for the breed societys youth development programme. Tui Erratia X95, by HF Dreamstreet 21F and out of a Lord Horatio of Blelack dam, stood reserve champion and sold with two straws each of semen from three leading sires. Erratia realised 5000gns when four young breeders joined forces to buy the heifer. (United Auctions). *
