HF average up £75 on last month

THE North Western Holstein Friesian club sale saw an average price of £1025 at Crewe lastweek, up £75 on the previousmonth.

Leading the field at 2000gns was Cottonfarm Miss America 3rd, a January-calved heifer from A Boughey and Son, Shrewsbury. She is out of a Valais dam tracing back to the Joylan Miss America family and comes from five successive generations of Excellent and Very Good cows.

Fulfordhall herd

She was giving 31.5kg on the day and was bought by Alan and Robert Brooks for their Fulfordhall herd at Wettenhall, Winsford, Cheshire.

The Boughey consignment held the days second highest price when Peter Rutter paid 1800gns for the calved heifer Frizers Jumpin Jack Dana.

Sired by Van Wagner Jumpin Jack and carrying two lines to To-Mar Blackstar, she heads for Mr Rutters Bardell herd at nearby Nantwich.

The days judge, Mr Frank Roberts, owner of the Townhouse herd, found his champion in S J, J M and I R Showells Moordown Statesman Restive 193rd, a daughter of Embryoworld Statesman from their herd at Nuneaton.

Jolly family

Long-time supporters of this event, the Jolly family from Great Eccleston, near Preston, scooped two of the highest prices. Their reserve champion winning heifer, Fieldside Electric Baby 275th once again proved the depth of breeding behind this established family. By Dupasquier Wind she went to R Gould, Ashbourne, Derbys at 1500gns.

She was paired with herd mate Fieldside Esme 130th, by Etazon Hokes, to win the pairs title. She also went to Mr Gould for 1500gns.

Other notable bids included 1550gns from W and T D Jackson, Preston for E and M Pearces Crookgate Clara 99th; while G J Sutton, Congleton received 1500gns for his Rowarton Valiant Abbess from Altrincham buyers B Kennerley and Son.
