High yield from Claire

FREE-DRAINING land, which kept Claire wheat sown in late September relatively dry over winter, is the main reason for its highly encouraging 10.1t/ha (4.1t/acre) yield at Rentain Court Farm, Chartham, near Canterbury, Kent.

“Last year we had 8 acres and it did about 3.5t/acre, which was nothing magnificent,” says Jo Pickett halfway through his 40ha (100 acres) of the variety ahead of Optic spring barley. “We have been lucky this time. On our chalky ground it escaped waterlogging.”
