Holdings with equine features on market

TWO large holdings both with equine attributes, but at opposite ends of the country, are now available from Smiths Gore and Dreweatt Neate.

In the south, Dreweatts is handling the sale of the 1380-acre Poundon Estate, on the Bucks/Oxon border, near Bicester. Valued at £5.75m, the estate includes 27 stables, an indoor riding school, a horse swimming pool and three gallops, two artificial, one grass. There are also four let farms, covering 625 acres, and two let cottages yielding a total of £40,000/year.

Heading north, Newlands Grange, Whittonstall, 12 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, also has lots of equestrian angles, a fair amount of tenanted land and a hefty price tag of £3.5m.

Over the past 25 years the 613-acre holding has been turned into a stud farm breeding American Morgan horses as well as a profitable livery business. Divided six ways, three of the lots total 267 acres of arable and pasture land let on farm business tenancies, the longest of which runs until 2006.

A large Georgian farmhouse, three cottages and 240 acres of land, including woodland with cleared rides suitable for horses, makes up lot one, while most of the equine buildings are featured in lot two. &#42
