THE home to one of the south-west regions top performing dairy herds is for sale.
The herd at the 218-acre Marshwood Farm, Perry Street, near Chard, Somerset, has averaged 9100 litres/cow although current performance due to restructuring is back to about 8500 litres/cow.
The farm has a range of modern farm buildings and includes a trigon parlour with standing for 18 cows. By separate negotiation 1.7m litres of milk quota are available and the vendors would consider selling the farm on a lock, stock and barrel basis.
Also there are also two four-bedroom farmhouses, a lake and an area of water meadows.
Strutt & Parker is guiding the farm at £1.15m for the whole.
In Shropshire, Halls is selling a 248 acre arable and dairy unit near Wem. New House Farm, Wolverley is guided at offers in excess of £1m for the whole by agent David Giles and includes a modern 100-cow dairy unit and a 2000t ambient potato store.
All the land is eligible for arable area aid and there is irrigation for about 11m gallons/year.
Another dairy farm to hit the market is Roses Farm, Black Rock, near Camborne, Devon.
Guided at offers in excess of £450,000 by agent Miller & Son, the 238-acre unit includes accommodation for at least 140 cows – 605,575 litres of milk quota are available separately – and a four-bedroom farmhouse. About 138 acres of the land are eligible for arable area aid.
