Hot potatoes lead to £300 NZ fine
A MAN was fined the equivalent of more than £300 for trying to smuggle four potatoes into New Zealand.
Ted Coakley, an Irish immigrant, was found to have violated the countrys laws designed to protect the New Zealand potato industry, which is worth over £8 million a year.
Foreign potato varieties are viewed as sources of viruses, fungus or bacteria.
