Howzat for a lot with Grace connections
TWO blocks of historically located land in the Midlands are now on the market.
In Warks, Pavilion Field, where W G Grace, the father of modern cricket, once swung his bat, is part of a lot due to go under the hammer with Howkins & Harrison on April 17.
The 181-acre parcel, of which 150 acres are IACS-registered, is up for sale following the retirement of farming couple Peter and Betty Wallace who plan to remain in the house at Home Farm, Stretton under Fosse.
Guided at £500,000, the land was originally part of the Newbold Revel Estate, home in the 1400s to the author Sir Thomas Malory. In the late 1800s the estate was bought by A * Wood who had a passion for cricket and would often invite the leading cricketers of the day to play on his private ground.
Further east, Northants firm Henry * Bletsoe is selling 70 acres of IACS-registered arable land at Fotheringhay where Mary Queen of Scots was executed in 1587. Available in two lots, the firms Nichola Clayton-Bailey is guiding the Grade 3 soil at £135,000. *
