HSE inspectors to probe Archers "fatality"

By FWi staff

HEALTH and Safety officials have started a formal investigation into the death of John Archer. Mr Archer, eldest son of Tony and Pat Archer, was killed when the tractor he was driving overturned at Bridge Farm, Ambridge yesterday.

David Mattey, HSEs chief agricultural inspector said: “This tragic accident should help to bring home to everyone the devastating effects that such needless accidents can have on farming families.”

In the last six years, 41 people have been killed in similar accidents when farm vehicles have overturned. The Health and Safety Executive has published a Tractor Action booklet to explain how farmers and farmworkers can minimise the risk of their tractors overturning.
