Hunting lobby defeats RSPCA activists
PRO-HUNTING members of the RSPCA have successfully lobbied for the rejection of an anti-hunting resolution at the charitys annual meeting in Leicester.
The resolution called on the government to amend parliamentary procedure to make it more difficult for private members Bills to be blocked by lone MPs.
It was put forward in the wake of the failure of the recent Bill to ban hunting of the Labour MP Michael Foster.
The resolution was defeated by 529 votes to 188 after members of a pro-hunting group called the Countryside Animal Welfare Group packed the meeting.
The group had proposed three stronger resolutions demanding changes to procedures.
But the RSPCA refused to allow these to be debated on the grounds that they could be against the societys interests.
