Hymns for F&Mvictims

WHILE most people feel impotent to help the hundreds of farmers whose businesses have been affected by foot-and-mouth, a group of 30 singers in the Highlands have produced a tape of hymns which theyre posting free to all farms with confirmed cases throughout the UK.

Roddy Robertson, a member of Inverness and District Gospel Male Voice Choir, and a farmer and machinery dealer near Tain, said the choir, which is largely composed of people with interests in the countryside, wanted to help farmers affected by the disease in the only way they could.

"Were all involved in country matters in one way or another, whether in farming, accountancy, machinery or many other outlets, and have been horrified by the what fellow farmers have had to face further south," he said.

"We hope the affected farmers will accept the tape in the spirit its being done. We might not be the best choir in Britain, but were singing from the heart and its the only way we can express our sympathy and encouragement."

Already the choir has mailed out more than a 1000 tapes to farmers on the Ministry of Agriculture list of infected farms.

The tapes are also available free of charge to anyone who wants a copy. Contact Mr Robertson at Viewfield Farm, Tain, Ross-shire IV19 1PX or by telephoning 01862 892151.
