&#8226 GENETIC manipulation will be one of the largest democratic issues facing the UK in the next few years, according to environmentalist Jonathon Porritt.

Speaking at the Lady Eve Balfour Memorial lecture last week, Mr Porritt said the organic movements decision to ban the use of all GM products gave it an ethical advantage.
