IN BRIEF

&#8226 MAFF is to back a new parliamentary Bill which aims to provide more scientific data on the human and environmental safety of pesticides.

The Bill, forwarded by Ben Bradshaw (Lab, Exeter), has reached its second reading stage and will give greater information on chemicals which were evaluated by government prior to 1986.

Junior farm minister Jeff Rooker welcomed the move. "I firmly support proposals to allow people to find out more about the pesticides which may have been used to treat food or their homes."
