uANOTHER casualty in the Scottish abattoir sector has been announced with receivers appointed to try to sell Biggar Quality Meats in Lanarkshire. The firm ceased trading 18 months ago. The premises had been leased to another meat company. BQM is believed to have liabilities of more than £1.5m.
Receivers Cooper and Lybrand said there had been several Inquiries about the business but could not confirm that among them was Minmar 408, the consortium of meat traders which recently bought and closed Lockerbie Meat Packers.
