IN BRIEF

&#8226 NEW generic agrochemical maker AgriGuard aims to supply cheap products through established distributors in the UK, Ireland and Western Europe. The Dublin-based company previously traded as research and development specialist Agritech Chemical. It already has product registrations for total herbicide glyphosate and growth regulator chlormequat. Three other registrations, thought to be cereal herbicides, are nearing completion. Joint ventures with existing makers in Europe and Asia will reduce manufacturing costs. Savings should be passed on to farmer customers, says the company.

&#8226 MILKING equipment manufacturer Gascoigne Melotte has been taken over by Dutch company Trako Techniek which makes robotic milking machines and agricultural wheel systems. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will result in an estimated combined turnover of £60m in 1999. UK operations will continue as normal, says the group. &#42
