IN BRIEF

&#8226 ACCURATE spraying starts with the sprayer, says the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), which continues its campaign to have sprayers tested on a regular basis.

Operating a sprayer, it says, with 5% inaccuracy to spray 20ha (50 acres) could result in an overspend of an amount equal to the cost of a sprayer test.

The AEA sprayer test scheme is now operated by 26 test centres throughout the UK.

with the test, which costs about £145, comprising a 40-point checklist covering mechanical safety, ancillaries and delivery/application systems.

&#8226 KVERNELANDS empire building continues. Following on the heels of its Greenland purchase in May, comes news of the purchase of sprayer and power harrow manufacturer, Rau-Agrotechnic.

Brand names such as Rau for sprayers, Rau-Sicam and Rau-Jean de Bru for harrows will, says Kverneland, be further developed through investment – both in product development and in core production equipment.

Raus dealer network is set to be maintained after the takeover, which is due to be completed by the end of December.
