• BETTER boar fertility is the aim of a new three-year, £140,000 project running at Brunel University, London, and in Cambridge, and funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. The award will be used to develop a fertility test for boars, as well as investigating possible undiscovered causes of boar fertility using newly developed technologies.
Researchers involved in the project point out that a 5% drop in sow productivity due to infertile boars can cost £20 a sow a year.
