IN BRIEF

uSUCKLER cows only last an average of about six years, according to an SAC and Signet study involving 3000 purebred cows. Reporting in Signets Beef and Sheep Notes, SAC student Laura Arbuckle says this figure is surprisingly low, with the average cow producing just four calves. However, the oldest cow in each breed was between 15 and 16 years old.
