Internet market in fruit launched

THE international fruit market is set to move online with the launch today (Monday) of FruitXchange, which allows produce to be traded over the internet.

Traders will be able to deal with each other in an online market backed by Fyffes, the Dublin-based fresh produce importer and distributor.

It is the latest in a string of e-commerce launches in the commodities and agricultural sector.

Traders can already buy and sell on the Web sugar, coffee, tea and livestock.

FruitXchange is part of Worldoffruit, a website aimed at fruit businesses. It is being developed as a portal for the fresh produce industry.

The site already includes news and information for the trade, and other services include online auctions, specialised search engines, weather and crop information and message boards.
