Irish Limousins are sold in ks
BRITISH cattle breeders had their first opportunity to bid in ks last weekend when the Ardlea and Elite Limousin herd held its annual sale of females.
The herd, based at Rahee, Co Laois in Eire, offered over 50 females, which levelled at k5300 (£3238) for 47 sold.
The top call of k9100 (£5559) came for Elite Naomi, a 1998-bred daughter of Espoir and out of a cow by Ferry. She was in-calf to Paris Show winner Lino and had a heifer calf at foot by Ideal 23. Buyer was Tim MacCarthy, Skull, Co Cork.
Patrick Mulconroy of Tulla gave k9000 (£5498) for Ardlea Penelope, a young cow by Ferry and out of an imported cow by Cristal. She was in-calf to Ideal 23. Another Ferry heifer went to John Kenny, Tipperary, at k8600 (£5253).
Leading the British buying contingent were North Yorks breeders David and Rachel Capstick, who paid k8500 (£5192) for Ardlea Naomh. This first calver is by Junior and out of an imported dam by Heureux.
Another Ferry heifer heads for Scotland with Alistair Vance at k8100 (£4947) and James Hunter, Co Antrim, gave k6900 (£4214) for an Espoir-sired first calver with a calf at foot. Eugene OMeara, Co Clare, bid k6900 (£4214) for Ferry-sired Elite Petula, which is out of the successful show cow Luttrelstown Helena (George Candler). *
