Jersey devotees
HAVING milked on a 100% quota leased system for the past six years, Bedfordshire Jersey breeders Martin and Cynthia Shipley dispersed their Pavenham herd at Uttoxeter market last week.
These devotees of the true Island type of Jersey have strived to breed a herd combining type and production.
The top price of 1000gns came for Pavenham Artiste, a third calver by Ferdon Glens Coronet and served in February by Pavenham Oberon. She was bought by John Heath, Hull, who also secured her daughter, Pavenham Artiste 2nd.
AVERAGES: 37 cows and heifers in-milk/in-calf £605, two served heifers £472 and 15 maiden heifers £208. (Gwilym Richards with Bagshaws Agricultural.)n
