Job threat to Aventis scientists
CHESTERFORD Park, the Saffron Walden-based research centre employing 350 people, is up for sale following the merger of life sciences giants Hoechst and Rhône-Poulenc to form Aventis.
Hundreds of other jobs could be lost in the crop protection businesses of the two companies as part of a rationalisation programme following the merger.
Three research sites in Germany and two in France are under threat from the merger and unions estimate that up to 1400 jobs in the crop protection division are at stake.
