Jones widens its range with folding flail mower
A HYDRAULICALLY folding flail mower with a cutting width of 8m is the latest addition to the kit available from Doncaster-based Jones Engineering.
Comprising three 2.8m units, the centre one can be front mounted or, in the absence of a front linkage, attached to the main frame at the rear so that it runs between the two outer units.
To ensure the flail of the centre unit is rotating in the correct direction, this unit has a double headstock for a push/pull operation.
Drive to the flails is via gearboxes rated at 350hp- the flails themselves having 32 blades cutting against a shear blade. This arrangement, says Jones, provides a fine chop and even mulch.
Cutting height is controlled by adjusting the position of the rear rollers. Folding to a transport width of 3m and requiring a minimum of 160hp to operate, the Jones Engineering flail mower costs from £22,650. *
